      • Changed to Hyundai?

        by DenverDude|operateSunday, July 26, 2020

        5.0

Just 10 years ago, the idea of trading in a Ford, Toyota, Nissan or Volkswagen for a Hyundai (as I just did) was a joke. not anymore! The 2020 Hyundai Palisade outshines its rivals in the designated mainstream 3-row SUV segment, but can easily hold its own against BMW, Infiniti, and Cadillac in the luxury segment. Serious. Driving is fine. 291 horsepower gives enough power. Regardless, nobody drags their 3-row SUVs. The gearbox is stable, and the ride is comfortable and quiet. All-wheel drive works well (although this isn't exactly an all-terrain vehicle). MPG was about 20% higher than expected. With a 120-mile stretch, the Palisade averages 36 (yes, 36) mpg in non-Eco mode! This is the exception as it usually gets around 24-26 MPG for me. Enough space. It's not as big as an Atlas or Traverse, but it's bigger than a Highlander or Explorer (yes - believe it or not). In the Limited package that I bought, it comes with top technology, safety features and a luxurious combination of interior materials. It's actually the whole package. It's not 100% great - the lack of power folding mirrors is a drawback. And regular Bridgestone tires should be Michelin. But these are "problems of the rich". It's hard to find anything wrong with the modern Palisade. (Also - I can't rate the reliability a 5 because I haven't owned it long enough. Considering it has a 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty, I guess it's reliable.) These are my best cars I've owned, period.. .including my old Jeep Grand Cherokee and Volkswagen Atlas. I'm glad I made the exchange.……

        5.0

I am retired and wanted something to support our upcoming travel plans. We want a car with strong safety features, and Hyundai/Kia does a great job on that front. We decided on the Calligraphy AWD model, which has all the advantages and a nice interior. There are a lot of cameras, but the best ones are the ones placed under the rearview mirror and activated by the blinkers. You can see exactly who is approaching, no more blind spots! These cameras, like all cameras, provide very high resolution images. Exterior - The design is recognizable, especially the front part. LED lights/lights provide excellent illumination at night. People stop trying to figure out what it is. We also have a Mercedes ML Series and the Palisade is long and wide which makes it a bit cramped in a two car garage. The tailgate is easily opened from the outside, with the dashboard or key fob. Ride - very comfortable and very quiet. I was surprised to see the wind noise noted by KBB's expert reviewer. This is not the case with our car. It is even quieter than our Mercedes SUV. The seats are very comfortable and supportive. Performance - Acceleration is adequate and downshifting is very easy. The transmission is very smooth, with almost no 8th gear feel. Braking is smooth and sensitive. Fuel consumption is surprisingly good around town, and the engine stop function isn't overly annoying. Interior - probably one of the best we've seen, especially at this price. Too many options to list, but the leather seats look great, there's plenty of storage and most things are within easy reach, except for the manual radio dial. The head-up display is very clear and does not block your view at all. The digital instrument panel looks different depending on the drive mode selected, but the speedometer and tachometer are very clear in each. You also have outside temperature, forecast and many other configurable options. We had captain's chairs in the second row, which were just as comfortable as the front seats. They also facilitate access to the third row of seats. The infotainment screen is nicely integrated into the center of the panel and offers a very high resolution. The home screen is divided into (3) Views, Maps, Radio, Weather. I haven't mastered voice commands yet, but navigation seems pretty easy and intuitive. The 360 degree camera view is excellent and the warning buzzer is very helpful. Storage and USB ports - there are plenty of them in the car, starting under the center console all the way to the compartments behind the seats in the third row. USB ports are distributed throughout the car, and the front console has a wireless charging station. Overall very satisfied, there are many more features to discover.……
