The Chicago Bears are gearing up for the 2023 NFL Draft less than three weeks away. General Manager Ryan Poles and his team have been working hard to finalize their draft board and will be looking to add more Impact players to the roster.
We werePreview of position groupswhere they are ahead of the draft. But how does each group of positions compare to the others? Which position group is the deepest? Which is the weakest?
From our reviews, the Bears are much better placed on offense than on defense, where there are a lot of big questions.
Here's a look at our current Bears positional rankings, from worst to best, ahead of the NFL draft:

Requirement for the role: High
Chicago had the league's worst onslaught in 2022, where it added just 20 sacks in 17 games. The fact that rookie safety Jaquan Brisker led the team in sacks (4) says everything you need to know about the lack of pressure on offense. Al-Quadin Muhammad was sacked after a disappointing season, leaving Trevis Gipson and Dominique Robinson in the squad. While the Bears added some veterans with free-agency potential in DeMarcus Walker and Rasheem Green, they will look to expand that group in the NFL draft.

Requirement for the role: High
The Bears had the worst defensive line in the NFL this offseason, and defensive tackle Justin Jones was probably the only player worthy of returning to the starting lineup. Chicago has signed Andrew Billings to a one-year contract in free agency, where he will serve as 1st head coach on the defensive line rotation. But the Bears still need a disruptive Coach 3 to shore up Matt Eberflus' defense. While Jones was solid in that role last year, the team was able to find an upgrade in the draft.

Requirement for the role: High
Ultimately, the offensive line by 2023 is the most important concern of the offensive. The Bears have a huge void in proper tackle that many are hoping to fill with their #9 draft pick. Braxton Jones is noted. in left tackle, but the team can move him to right if they find an improvement. Chicago signed veteran point guard Nate Davis from free agency to bolster its offensive line, but there are questions about center position. Cody Whitehair is the man currently, having moved to center with the arrival of Davis, but there could be a salary cap drop if the team finds a cheaper option in the draft.

Position requirement: moderate
While the defense will be more stressed, the cornerback is a prime position that the Poles will improve on. Jaylon Johnson is entering the final year of his rookie contract where he seems ripe for an extension. Kyler Gordon has had a tough rookie year where he started putting things together down the stretch. But those guys aside, the Bears need a solid CB3 for that defense, be it borderline or slot, and this guy's no Kindle Vildor. Ultimately, it depends on where Chicago wants to field Gordon in Year 2, having played both outdoors and indoors during his rookie season. However, there are options to update in the draft.

Position requirement: moderate
The Bears return with the same group of specialists as a year ago, including kicker Cairo Santos, punter Trenton Gill and long snapper Patrick Scales. Chicago signed Scales, the longest-serving leader at the helm, to a one-year contract. Gill was having a solid rookie season as Santos entered the final year of his contract. The Bears are unwilling to make any special team moves in the draft.

SecurityMichael Reaves/Getty Images
Position requirement: moderate
Chicago is returning to its starting safety duo of Eddie Jackson and Jaquan Brisker, who will anchor the defensive backfield. Security is one of Defense's greatest strengths. Jackson is coming off a rebound season in which he recorded four team-high interceptions in just 12 games, missing the last five after suffering a season-ending foot injury. He also led the team with two forced fumbles. Brisker was the Poles' top rookie in their top-flight draft, where his play certainly helped elevate Jackson as well. The depth is a little worrying given that DeAndre Houston-Carson is still out of contract, but it's hard not to be confident about what the Bears have with Jackson and Brisker.

Required Position: Low
The Bears renewed the running back quarterback this offseason following the departure of David Montgomery, who signed a three-year contract with rival Lions in free agency. Chicago added two key players in D'Onta Foreman and Travis Homer. Foreman will challenge Khalil Herbert to carry, while Homer has a knack for catching passes from the backfield. More importantly, the team re-signed leading blocker Khari Blasingame to a two-year deal this offseason. While running back isn't a huge necessity, that doesn't mean the Bears won't accept a running back later in the draft.

hard endBrett Davis-USA TODAY Sports
Required Position: Low
Chicago improved their tight end space this offseason with the addition of former Packer and Bears childhood fan Robert Tonyan. Tonyan will serve as a complement to starter Cole Kmet, who has enjoyed an impressive third season leading the team in receptions (50), yards (544) and touchdowns (7). Kmet and Tonyan give Justin Fields a good duo of weapons in the passing game, especially in the red zone. While the tight end isn't an urgent necessity, that doesn't mean the Bears shouldn't consider adding one in the later rounds of the draft.

Required Position: Low
The Bears relied on Justin Fields as the starting quarterback after deciding to trade the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft. Fields emerged as one of the most exciting young players in the league last season despite less than ideal circumstances as he rushed for 1,143 yards. Fields needs to improve as a passer and the team is taking steps to enable him to do so, but there's no denying his star power and potential to take this offense to new heights. Chicago fired Trevor Siemian and signed PJ Walker to act as a backup for Fields and added someone to run the same offense with.

Required Position: Low
The wide receiver was one of the team's biggest needs going into the free hand as Fields lacked a true No. 1 wide receiver. That changed when the Bears got DJ Moore in a No. 1 pick trade that also included two first-round picks and two second-round picks. Moore is a true WR1 who has been productive in his five years in the league despite poor quarterback play. Moore has already had three 1,000-yard receiving seasons and will be Fields' first pick in Chicago. Not to mention, the Bears also have two wide receivers in Chase Claypool and Darnell Mooney who will benefit from Moore's arrival. It's safe to say that Chicago has the best receiving corps in a long time.

Required Position: Low
The linebacker has been one of the defense's biggest needs this offseason, but the Poles solved that on the first day of a free hand. The Bears have Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards, who should immediately help this defense. Edmunds is scheduled to serve at MIKE Linebacker with Edwards at WILL. Last year's standout newcomer, Jack Sanborn, will play the role of SAM. It's safe to say that Chicago won't have to worry about the linebacker for a while.
